Port St. Lucie Police Recover Funds Stolen From Elderly Resident

JAN. 5, 2022 | PORT ST. LUCIE — Port St. Lucie Police were able to recover $40,000 for an elderly resident who was scammed out of $100,000.
Leonard Odain, 83, was taken by scammers in a phone call who said he had won a $4.5 Mega Millions Jackpot.
Odain was instructed to pay upfront fees and taxes in order to receive the lottery winnings, sending over $100,000 to different locations in New York and Florida. He never received the lottery winnings and contacted the police.
PSLPD Detective Paul Griffith was able to recover $40,000 for Odain. Recovering funds in these types of incidents are very difficult and do not occur often due to the complexity of the crime.
Griffith met with Odain and presented him with a check for the recovered funds.
