JAN. 19, 2021 | PORT ST. LUCIE –Two men chewing on a leafy green substance were arrested after Port St. Lucie Police officers stopped for a traffic violation.
During the early morning hours of January 19, police officers saw a vehicle with no tag light at the intersection of Southwest Gatlin Blvd. and Southwest Port St. Lucie Blvd. The vehicle continued west on Gatlin, traveling approximately 20-30 mph, which is approximately 10 mph under the speed limit.
Police officers turned on their emergency lights and sirens which the driver ignored and continued traveling another 1.5 miles.
The passenger of the vehicle, Da ‘jour Shamarie ira Harper, 20, exited the vehicle while chewing on something. Officers found Harper to be chewing on a green leafy substance that was in his mouth, teeth, and tongue. The driver, Trent Henley, 20, also had a green leafy substance in his mouth, teeth, and tongue.
Harper told the officers they did see and hear the emergency lights and sirens, but they continued to ignore them while they drove, so they could eat the remaining marijuana. Officers said Harper is on felony drug probation which is why they attempted to eat the marijuana. It is estimated they ingested approximately a quarter ounce of marijuana.
Harper was charged with tampering/destruction of evidence, and violation of probation
Henley was charged with tampering/destruction of evidence, possession of drug paraphernalia and given citations for an equipment violation, fleeing and eluding, and possession of an open container.
