COVID-19 cases surge across Treasure Coast

JUNE 4, 2020 | 4:45 P.M. | TREASURE COAST–As the state’s businesses and residents begin moving quickly toward a somewhat close to normal life, the  Florida Department of Health reported the largest single-day increase of confirmed COVID-19 cases since the pandemic began.

There are now 60,183 confirmed COVID-19 cases in the state, an increase of 1,419 since Wednesday’s report. Today’s increase followed 1,317 cases announced Wednesday, the largest single-day increase at that time since 1,413 were announced April 17. The number of reported deaths increased to 2,607, an increase of 41 since Wednesday.

In Martin County, there are 752 people who tested positive, 86 were hospitalized and 10 deaths, including on from Wednesday.
In St. Lucie County, there are  524 who tested positive, 110 who were hospitalized and 31 deaths.

The data shows the increase in people infected came about the time the state opened up beaches and business right at the time of Memorial Day weekend.
