FHP officer shot and killed: I-95 shut down through Martin and St. Lucie counties

UPDATE | FEB. 5, 2020 | 2:33 P.M. | MARTIN COUNTY–Florida Highway Patrol reports one of their officers was killed when he was shot in the face by a driver who was pulled over for a traffic violation.

UPDATE: The Florida Department of Highway and Safety says that Trooper Joseph Bullock, a 19-year veteran of the force, was fatally wounded. He was assigned to Troop L in Fort Pierce. Bullock was an Air Force veteran. The family was notified.

Interstate 95 will be shut down for several hours after an officer-involved shooting, according to the Martin County Sheriff’s Office.

Florida Department of Transporation officials have closed I-95 northbound at Indiantown Rd in Jupiter to give cars a better alternative to the Turnpike and US-1. Southbound I-95 is closed at Becker Road.

FEB. 5, 2020 | 12 P.M. | MARTIN COUNTY–Interstate 95 is shut down in Palm City after several law enforcement officers responded to a shooting at a rest area, according to the Martin County Sheriff’s Office.

Martin County Fire Rescue official said it had been called about 11:30 a.m. to reports of a shooting in the area of the northbound rest area.

North and southbound lanes of I-95 are shut down at the mile marker 107, which is three miles south of State Road 714, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
