Multi-vehicle crash kills one in Port St. Lucie

Update: Driver charged with DUI manslaughter

UPDATE | DEC. 15, 2019 | 3:34 P.M. | PORT ST. LUCIE–The driver of 2014 Dodge Ram Pickup, Michiah Lee Jackson (25) of Springville Ala, was charged with DUI Manslaughter. He is currently at St. Lucie County Jail. The passenger killed  in the traffic accident was Anthony Michael Lara of Port St. Lucie.

DEC. 15, 2019 | 12:40 P.M. | PORT ST. LUCIE–Three vehicles were involved in an early-morning crash in the Whispering Pines neighborhood leaving one passenger dead and others injured.

Port St. Lucie Police reported the accident occurred at the intersection of Southwest Port St. Lucie Boulevard and Southwest Tunis Avenue. at about 2:20 a.m.

A preliminary investigation indicates a 61-year-old male driver of a 2014 Kia Sol and a 24-year-old driver of a 2014 Dodge Ram pickup were both traveling southbound on Port St. Lucie Boulevard. The driver of the Kia Sol was stopped for the red light at S.W. Tunis Avenue. The driver of the pick-up did not stop and rear-ended the Kia Sol. The impact from the pickup pushed the Kia Sol across the intersection where an 18-year-old driver of a 2007 Volkswagen Jetta was stopped northbound on Port St. Lucie Blvd. for the red light. The driver of the Kia Sol struck the Volkswagen’s driver side. All vehicles were disabled from the crash. A 32-year-old male passenger inside of the Kia Sol sustained serious injuries.

St. Lucie County Fire Rescue went to the accident and transported the Kia Sol driver with non-life-threatening injuries. His passenger was airlifted to a nearby hospital and later pronounced dead at 3:04 am. The pickup driver was transported to a nearby hospital and released. He was then driven to the police station for questioning. No other injuries reported.

Traffic homicide investigators are investigating the crash.
