Robbery suspect seriously injured in Fort Pierce

OCT. 26, 2019 | 5:15 P.M. | FORT PIERCE–A carjacking suspect is in the hospital after police say he crashed into a police officer while fleeing a robbery.

Fort Pierce police say, Michael John Ginger, 28, was fleeing from a robbery around 11:30 a.m. on South U.S. Highway 1 near Indian Hills Drive.

According to police, Ginger carjacked a nearby vehicle that was occupied, and pointed a gun at an officer. The officer fired his gun in an attempt to stop Ginger. No one was injured, police say.

Ginger drove the stolen car south on U.S. Highway 1 to elude police, but lost control and crashed into a police cruiser.

Police say the victim of the stolen vehicle was not in the vehicle when the crash happened and was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Police also say no officers were injured.

Ginger was taken to a local hospital in critical condition however, charges are pending. He has a criminal past in Martin and Palm Beach counties.
