Port St. Lucie Police search for man who jumped into canal

SEPT. 26, 2019 | 6:02 A.M. | PORT ST. LUCIE—Port St. Lucie Police are trying to find a man who jumped off the C-24 canal bridge Wednesday night.

Police say around 6:45 p.m., several motorists driving north on Interstate 95 near Crosstown Parkway called 911, saying a white male was standing on the bridge, jumping up and down, and acting erratic. They were worried he was going to jump off the bridge.

As others drove by, some people saw the man jump into the canal, according to police. At this time, no one has seen the man reappear form the water.

The man was described as a white male between 40 and 50 years old, about 6 to 6’2″ in height and weighs 220 pounds, police said. He was shirtless and had on black shorts.

Officers and detectives are searching, along with marine patrol personnel, the St. Lucie County dive team and air unit. Police are asking anyone with information about the man to call the Port St. Lucie Police Department at 772-871-5001.
